Best creatine UK: powder, capsules, gummies or tablets?

For most people, the best creatine in the UK is a plain, unflavoured creatine monohydrate powder: it is the cheapest way to get 3 g of creatine a day, and it mixes into almost any drink. In our price comparison below, unflavoured and flavoured powders cost roughly 7p to 24p per 3 g of creatine at the time of writing (October 2026), while capsules ran from about 14p to 42p, tablets from about 35p to 66p and gummies about 85p. Gummies, capsules and tablets make sense if convenience or taste matters more to you than cost.

What creatine does, and how much you need

Creatine is a compound your body makes and also gets from foods such as meat and fish. As a supplement, it is one of the most widely used products in sport. The authorised GB health claim is that creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity exercise. That claim applies when you take 3 g of creatine a day.

That 3 g figure is why we've used it as the basis for this guide. It also explains why the daily amount is the same whatever format you choose: a gummy and a scoop of powder are doing the same job if they deliver the same amount of creatine.

One detail is worth knowing. Most products are creatine monohydrate, and labels sometimes give the weight of the monohydrate rather than the creatine itself. Creatine monohydrate is about 88% creatine, so 5 g of monohydrate provides about 4.4 g of creatine, and 3.4 g provides about 3 g.

Creatine formats compared

Unflavoured powder

Plain creatine monohydrate is a fine white powder with little taste. "Micronised" means the particles have been milled smaller, which helps it stir into water, juice or a shake. It is the lowest cost per gram and has the shortest ingredient list, usually just creatine monohydrate. The trade-off is that you need a scoop and a drink each day.

Creapure powder

Creapure® is a branded creatine monohydrate from a single named manufacturer. Some people prefer a named source. Nutritionally it is still creatine monohydrate, so the amount you take is the same; in our range it costs more per 3 g at the time of writing (October 2026).

Flavoured powder

Flavoured powders add acids, flavourings and usually a sweetener such as sucralose or stevia. They are handy if you take creatine on its own in water. Check the serving size, because the scoop includes flavouring as well as creatine: for example, a 6 g scoop of the Skill Nutrition flavoured range provides 5 g of creatine monohydrate.

Capsules

Capsules are tasteless and portable, but you usually need three to five a day to reach about 3 g. They cost more per gram than powder, though the gap varies a lot by brand. Some capsule shells are gelatine and some are plant-based (hypromellose), so check the label if that matters to you.

Gummies

Creatine gummies are the easiest to take and need no water. They contain sugar and glucose syrup, and a 4-gummy serving of the Applied Nutrition gummies provides 3 g of creatine monohydrate. They were the most expensive format per 3 g of creatine in our comparison at the time of writing (October 2026).

Chewable and effervescent tablets

Chewable tablets and fizzy tablets sit between capsules and gummies. Effervescent tablets dissolve into a flavoured drink; chewable tablets are eaten like sweets. Both add bulking agents and sweeteners, and both cost more per gram than powder.

Price per 3 g of creatine: comparison table

Prices below are at the time of writing (October 2026) and are the lowest listed price for each product. They will change, so check the product page before you buy.

How we worked it out:

  • Price per serving = product price ÷ number of servings on the label.
  • Creatine per serving comes from the label. Where a label gives only the creatine monohydrate weight, we've estimated creatine at 88% of it (marked "est."), the same ratio shown on labels in our range that list both, such as 5,000 mg monohydrate giving 4,400 mg creatine.
  • Cost per 3 g creatine = price per serving × 3 ÷ creatine per serving.
  • Naughty Boy capsules list 3 to 5 capsules a day; we used 3 capsules (120 ÷ 3 = 40 servings).

A few patterns stand out. Larger tubs usually cost less per serving than smaller ones from the same brand. Capsule prices vary widely, so a well-priced capsule can match a mid-range powder. Gummies and effervescent tablets cost several times more per 3 g than plain powder, which is the price of convenience and taste.

Which should you choose?

Whichever you pick, consistency matters more than format: creatine is taken every day, not just on training days. You can mix powder into your post-workout shake from our protein range, or see every option in our creatine collection. If you train in the heat, our hydration products sit alongside it well.

FAQ

Are creatine gummies as good as powder?

The creatine is the same compound. What matters is how much creatine you get each day. Check the label: a serving of gummies may give slightly under 3 g of creatine, and gummies cost much more per gram at the time of writing (October 2026).

Do I need to do a loading phase?

No. Some people take a larger amount for the first week, but taking 3 g a day consistently is a simple approach that matches the authorised claim.

When should I take creatine?

Any time of day suits most people. Taking it at the same time each day, for example with a meal or a shake, makes it easier to remember.

Is micronised creatine better?

Micronised creatine has smaller particles, so it mixes more easily. It is still creatine monohydrate, and the amount you need is the same.
