A well-planned plant-based diet can support serious training — the key word being planned. A few smart supplement choices make the planning considerably easier.
Protein first
Plant proteins tend to be slightly lower in certain amino acids individually, which is why good vegan powders blend several sources. Applied Nutrition's Critical Plant Protein combines multiple plant proteins into a complete profile, while Reflex Nutrition's Plant Based Protein (including handy single-serve sachets) and BioTechUSA's Plant Protein offer excellent alternatives. Aim for the same daily protein target as any other athlete — roughly 1.6–2.2 g per kilogram of body weight.
Creatine matters even more
Creatine occurs naturally in meat and fish, so vegans typically start with lower stores — and often notice a bigger benefit from supplementing. Plain creatine monohydrate is vegan-friendly; see our Creatine collection.
Micronutrients worth watching
- Vitamin B12 — essential to supplement on a fully plant-based diet; found in B-complex products
- Vitamin D3 — sensible for most people in the UK regardless of diet
- Zinc and magnesium — intake can run low; Applied Nutrition and BioTechUSA both offer options
Greens, fibre and gut health
Applied Nutrition's Mushroom Blend and Solutions Greens Multivitamin add functional plant nutrition, while BioTechUSA's Fiber Mix and Fiber Complex support digestion — useful when protein intake climbs.
